This diagram shows why there can only be 3 time-lines. By the 4th bifurcation, we find the dividing realities from one time-line have begun to overlap with those dividing from another time-line. Thus, for this type of bifurcation to occur, the "middle" or "trunk" time-line must bifurcate only at every other interval.
